In the 31st annual Regata Amigos, held on Saturday, May 6, ail boats took many Mexican kids (MADONNA lost a foot on the waterline) and raced "around the island" with BEL ESPRIT finishing first, MIDNITE RIDER second, and SINISTERRE third.

The sailors were saying "There is no other regata like this one. The whole community comes out to welcome you." There was a party on Wednesday with food and a "river of Corona." On Thursday noon Comodoro of Club de Yates de Isla Mujeres, Lic. Jose de Jesus Lima invited sailors to his "House on the Rocks" for Mexican food and drinks and on that evening there was a reception by the Mayor and the City Council at the City Hall, and after that trophy presentations at the City Square. On Saturday there was another party with food and a "river of Corona" and trophy presentation to the winners of the Regata Amigos.

Always at the parties and other activities were the Comodore, the Vice and Rear Admirals, and the Port Captain of the Mexican Navy, the Mayor and other city dignitaries. This is a unique combination of a 450mile ocean race and the unforgettable hospitality of the island people. All of the credit goes to the Lima family and especially to the unlimited dedication of Enrique Lima who was always everywhere, and to his young ladies Kin and Maria.

At the traditional basketball game on the City Square between us and them, our sailors played an excellent game and had a super coach. The other side did not have a coach, and never talked with each other. The score? Sorry, nobody seems to remember.
