We have updated the 2014 Preliminary Notice of race on the website. We Have noted the changes in RED. To find out the details of next years race, please click on the "Notice of Race" link on the home page, Regata Information Menu or the link below.
This year again we are asking those sailors that own a SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger or SPOT Gen3 device and have subscribed or will subscribe to Basic Tracking Plan during the regatta if we could have access to the device tracking data. Basic tracking is in addition to the SPOT basic service and allows automatic sending of position every 10 minutes to the satellite. The data we get will be used to test to see if using a device such as the SPOT can become an economical replacement for the Yellow Brick devices we use today in future races. If you have one of these devices and are willing to provide us your data (data feed ID) please let us know by email prior to registration. We also will be having a seminar on registration day to provide more details and answer questions.
Lynx is an interpretation of an actual privateer named Lynx built by Thomas Kemp in 1812 in Fell's Point, Maryland. She was among the first ships to defend American freedom by evading the British naval fleet then blockading American ports and serving in the important privateering efforts. Although captured early in the war, the original LYNX design was recognized as superior. With her rakish profile and superior sailing abilities, she served as an inspiration to those ships that would follow.
With a noble mission, Lynx acts as a dynamic educational platform and provides a unique opportunity for students to interact with their American History lessons and renders a hands-on experience. Students and adults recognize the War of 1812 as a significant element of American heritage and as a turning point in the development of our national identity.
